We lawyers tend to overthink things, and make them unnecessarily complicated.
This is usually true when we craft our monthly email newsletters.
(by the way, in case you weren’t aware, email newsletters are a powerful, low-cost way of amplifying your referral marketing process)
Let’s zero in on what makes an email referral marketing system so effective.
Basically, it’s the fact that we are:
- Reminding people
- Regularly, in a
- Reasonable way that we
- Care about helping them, and we
- Know how to help them
How we do the reminding isn’t as important as that we do it regularly in a reasonable way.
Sending a monthly email broadcast is a way to send regular reminders, but if we send too many emails that will be perceived by many people as unreasonable.
And then they’ll unsubscribe from our email list.
But what if we also remind them via social media? By using Twitter, for example.
Then we can safely avoid being too annoying because people will only read our tweets if they have time, and happen to be on Twitter.
Here’s a Ninja-Level Secret
You can use Twitter to create content that you can include in your email newsletter. And if you do this, you’ll make your life a lot easier while also turbocharging your overall marketing efforts.
Here’s an example using a clever tweet by a divorce lawyer named Erin Levine (which, by the way, I also posted to the #marketing channel in the Slack group for my Co-Pilot coaching program).
Anyway…
The cleverness of this tweet may not be obvious, so let me explain.
By posting this tweet Erin is:
- Providing helpful information (by simply linking to a useful article about finances and getting married).
- Reminding people that she is highly experienced divorce lawyer (that’s established by the sentence that she uses to introduce the article)
- Reminding people she cares about helping them (which can be inferred from the fact that she takes the time to post this information to Twitter)
Now, having done this she can turn around and do the same thing in an email newsletter (which hopefully she has).
This lesson is so important that I added it to my course in Email Marketing, which is included for folks who join my Co-Pilot program.
In that lesson, I explain how to take “tweetable” chunks of information and turn those into a simple email broadcast.
Oh, and by the way, if you want to get started with email marketing I highly recommend using ConvertKit.
It’s free for up to 1,000 names, and it can absolutely help you get more clients once you get comfortable using it.
If you need step-by-step help on how to set up the free account, watch this 15-minute Loom video.
Hopefully, you’ll start doing email marketing and discover for yourself how simple, easy and powerful it is.
Assuming you don’t make it unnecessarily complicated.
