Illinois attorneys with last names beginning A–M, your time is almost up! Submit your compliance with CLE requirements to the MCLE Board by 11:59 p.m. CDT on June 30 to avoid late fees.

The MCLE requirements for the 2020-2022 reporting period are 30 hours of approved Illinois MCLE credit, including at least six professional responsibility (PR) hours.

At least one hour in diversity and inclusion CLE and one hour in mental health and substance abuse CLE must be included within those six hours.

Newly admitted attorneys have separate requirements.

Reporting compliance to the MCLE Board

Attorneys can report “complied” by logging into the portal on the “Attorneys” tab of the MCLE Board’s website.

Instructions for reporting compliance and information about late fees are available on the website.

Free online CLE from the Commission

The Commission on Professionalism offers 5.5 hours of free online CLE credit through seven courses available on our website.

The Buck Stops Here: Ethics and Professionalism for In-House Counsel: Seeks to answer the ethical and professionalism questions in-house counsel face every day. (1.0 hour of PR CLE credit in Illinois; satisfies the Rule 716(c) requirement for foreign in-house counsel)

Are you a CBA member?

The Commission’s Executive Director Erika Harold will be participating in a live CLE this month at the Chicago Bar Association (CBA). The event is open to CBA members.

We Need To Talk: Navigating Challenging Conversations About Diversity: Harold will discuss how to identify and challenge biases and microaggressions, acquire the skills necessary to have conversations on culturally sensitive topics, and develop strategies for becoming an effective ally.

The event will be held in person at the CBA, on Wednesday, June 8, from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. Register to attend here. One hour of diversity and inclusion CLE credit in Illinois is available.

Other CLE Opportunities

Free CLE is also available through Illinois ARDC, and the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association with membership. The Illinois Lawyers’ Assistance Program offers CLE through their website and will host their annual training on June 17 to discuss mental health, substance use issues, recovery, & how to assist members of the IL legal community (3.0 hours of mental health and substance abuse CLE credit in Illinois).
