Have you ever watched a wood craftsman turn a simple piece of wood into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece of furniture or seen a tailor take a roll of fabric and transform it into a perfectly fitted suit? The process is fascinating. The attention to detail, the personal touch, the customization – it’s all about creating something that’s not just useful but also unique and personal. That’s the same approach we’ve taken with our Featured Post Widget. This isn’t just a tool; it’s a way to put your personal touch on your blog, portal, or microsite to make it yours.

Last week, our product team implemented a minor update to the Featured Post Widget, utilized throughout our blogging network. This versatile tool is active if any content is highlighted on your blog, portal, or microsite. This minor adjustment allowed me to better position smaller thumbnail images on our mobile views to the right or left of post titles. This layout type is often used on sites like the New York Times, The Guardian, or the Economist for secondary post elements on a home page.

You may ask why this matters. I think it’s challenging to show hierarchy on mobile views, where all content is scaled down to a narrow single-column view. This, in turn, can make each article look the same in format as the content above or below. Finding a simple way to show some variety while scrolling down adds texture to the page and helps the eye scan and differentiate as they read and browse.

It’s a small change, but it could make browsing a bit more interesting for your readers. Like a craftsman with wood or a tailor with fabric, these little touches can add character and value to the user experience.
