Legal teams facing an overwhelming surge in digital data have a new tool to streamline discovery, as HaystackID unveiled its Core Intelligence AI Review on Tuesday, a service that integrates generative AI with expert oversight to refine legal review processes.
As electronically stored information (ESI) continues to expand at an unprecedented rate, legal professionals are under increasing pressure to manage vast datasets while ensuring compliance with regulations such as the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). HaystackID’s latest innovation aims to relieve that burden by combining automation with human review, allowing legal teams to process and analyze documents with greater efficiency and defensibility.
“Core Intelligence AI Review represents a fundamental shift in how legal teams approach discovery,” said Esther Birnbaum, Executive Vice President of Legal Data Intelligence at HaystackID. “By uniting advanced generative AI with proven legal review expertise, we enable organizations to process vast amounts of data with greater speed and accuracy while maintaining the defensibility required in today’s regulatory environment.”
Unlike traditional AI-driven review models that rely on predictive coding or keyword-based searches, Core Intelligence AI Review employs deep learning and natural language processing (NLP) to provide a more context-aware and adaptive approach to document review. By integrating seamlessly within existing platforms such as Relativity aiR, the solution allows legal teams to leverage AI insights while maintaining control over critical legal decisions.
HaystackID’s approach is already demonstrating its impact. In a case study involving a U.S.-based securities firm, Core Intelligence AI Review processed 30,000 documents, achieving a 90.92% recall rate and a 69.86% precision rate. When coupled with expert-guided methodologies, those figures improved to 94.76% recall and 91.69% precision, significantly reducing manual review efforts while enhancing defensibility.
Ryan O’Leary, Research Director for Privacy and Legal Technology at IDC, said the launch represents an evolution in the field of AI-assisted legal review, one that balances automation with expert insight.
“HaystackID’s Core Intelligence AI Review is reimagining legal review by combining AI-enhanced automation with expert oversight to improve efficiency and defensibility,” O’Leary said. “Building on its stellar history in eDiscovery review, HaystackID applies a ‘reasonable voice’ approach to generative AI, ensuring innovation is adopted responsibly with a balance of precision and trust.”
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries, the legal sector remains cautious about full automation, particularly in areas that demand high levels of accuracy and regulatory compliance. John Brewer, Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer and Chief Data Scientist at HaystackID, emphasized that the technology is designed to enhance, not replace, human expertise.
“The real power of AI in legal discovery lies in its ability to enhance, not replace, human decision-making,” Brewer said. “Core Intelligence AI Review is designed to work within existing workflows, combining AI-driven efficiency with expert oversight to provide legal teams with a scalable, defensible, and effective review process.”
HaystackID will showcase the new service at Legalweek 2025 in New York City from March 24 to 27, offering live demonstrations and in-depth discussions with industry experts on how AI-powered legal review can improve discovery workflows.
As legal teams navigate the increasing complexity of data-driven cases, solutions like Core Intelligence AI Review may offer a critical bridge between the efficiency of artificial intelligence and the nuanced expertise required for legal compliance. In a field where accuracy and defensibility are paramount, HaystackID’s approach signals a shift toward a more integrated future—one in which AI does not replace human judgment but strengthens it.
